Janaza, Shariath

“Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem”Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen was Salaatu was- Salaamu ‘Alaa Sayidinaa Muhammadin wa Aalihi wa Asabihi Ajma ‘een (tauheed- risalat- ahkirat and islam-iman-ihsan)

Kafaan/ shroud

Funeral prayer of the following people is not held/ (1). A rebel who is killed during rebellion,(2). a bandit killed while committing banditry,(3). those who fight unjustly and killed in it, (4). he who strangled several persons,(5). armed desperadoes who pillage during night and killed in it, (6). he who murdered one or both of his parents and (7). he who was robbing somebody of his valuables and killed in it.

Salaatul Janaazah of all Muslims except for the above stated people will be held irrespective of however sinful he is, even of the one who committed suicide notwithstanding the fact that committing suicide is a great sin. Likewise, funeral prayer of the Muslim who deliberately omitted all of his prayers will also be held.

If there are some biers(many janazas), their Salaatul Janaazah can be offered jointly i.e. to form intention for all the dead present there in a single funeral prayer. But it is better to offer Salaatul Janaazah of each of them separately starting with the one who is the most pious among them and then the next/remaining ones in descending order.

In case of joint Salaatul Janaazah it is optional to either place the biers abreast of one another or after one another i.e. the chests of all the dead persons are opposite to the Imaam.

Salaatul Janaazah of the dead who was buried without it will be offered on his grave provided that there is no likelihood of decomposition of the body and in case the dead has been buried but the earth is yet to be spread over the grave then it should be taken out of it and buried after having offered Salaatul Janaazah. There is no timelimit for offering funeral prayer on the grave. It all depends on season, soil and health of the dead person. For instance, the body is decomposed in the summer sooner than the winter, healthy body sooner than the lean and it is decomposed in wet or saline soil sooner than the dry or unsaline soil.

It is quite “Makrooh Tahreemi” to offer Salaatul Janaazah in mosque irrespective of whether the bier is placed inside or outside the mosque or all or a few worshippers are inside the mosque, for a Prophetic saying forbids offering of funeral prayer in mosque.

To offer the Funeral Prayer, the corpse must be present in front. Offering Funeral Prayer without the corpse in front (Ghaaebana) is not permissible.

Corpse or dead body refers to one who is born alive and then dies. Funeral Prayers are not to be offered for the still-born.

If the Funeral Prayer is ready, and there is a danger of missing it by going for a bath / ablution, one must join it after doing Tayammum.

It is observed that some people offer the Funeral Prayer with their shoes on, or while standing atop their shoes. In the first instance, the shoes as well as the ground must be clean – and in the second instance, the shoes must be clean. There is more ihtiyat (care) that one does not pray while standing on the shoes. Stand on the earth, if you want you can stand upon your handkerchief.

It is mustahab that the Imam stand in front of the chest of the deceased.

Several janzah maybe prayed at the same time; there is the option of putting the deceased in a row so that the chest of all is in front of the imam or in a line so that ones’ head is in line with the other’s feet and the others’ feet is in line with the others’ head. Wa ala hazal qayas (and presume the rest on this)

It is better to make three saf (rows) …..If there are, for example, seven people, then one should become the Imam, three people should stand in the first saf, two in the second saf, and one in the last saf (Guniyah)

In Janzah, the last saf is the best out of all the saf. [Durre Mukhtar]

Masbooq, one who missed some takbeer, should say the rest of his takbeer after the Imam says salaam, and he should say only the takbeer without the supplications if he fears that people while start to give shoulder to the janzah before he finishes all the supplications. [Durre Mukhtar]

One can join the janzah even after the fourth takbber until the Imam has not said salaam. After the salaam of the Imam, he should say Allahu Akbar thrice (Duree Mukhtar) and say salaam.

There is Gusul, Kafan, and Janzah for the child of a muslim whose akhtar (most) body had come out otherwise the child will be bathed, covered in sheet, and buried without gusul, kafan and salah. Akthar (most), from the head, means from the head to the chest; so there is no janzah for the child who was born crying from the head but passed away before the chest came out, and from the feet, akthar means from the feet to the back. A child born alive or dead will be given a name and on the day of Qayamat the child will be resurrected. (Durre Mukhtar, Raddul Muhtar)

When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)

Make sure you forward this to others .
