Qadi Shawkani writes “In Islam there are two kinds of Bid’ah: Bid’ah Say’iah and Bid’ah Hasana. If a new thing opposes the Qur’an and Sunnah then it is Say’iah, but if it is not against the Shari’ah then it is Hasanah.(Nayl-ul-Autaar, Qadi Shawkani chapter Salaah Al Taravee).

Imam Nawawi writes that there are certain types of Bid’ah. Two of them are Bid’ah Sayyiah and Bid’ah Hasanah. Bid’ah sayyiah is a Bid’ah that opposes the Qur’an and sunnah and Bidah Hasanah is a Bid’ah that is not against the Qur’an or Sunnah. For example:To invent the usool (principle) of Hadeeth, usool of Fiqh, usool of Tafsir etc.[Tahzeeb al Asma wal lughaat word Bid’ah by Imam Nawawi]

Hafidhh ibn Rajjab defines bida to mean new things that have no basis in the Qur’an or Sunnah. If a new practice has evidence from the Qur’an or Sunnah it will not be Bid’ah Shari’ah, but it will be Bid’ah Logaviyya (linguistic). (Jaami’ Al Uloom Al Hukkam page 252 by Hafidhh ibn Rajjab).

Hafidhh Asqalani writes if a new thing is against Islam, it will be bad. If it is not against Islam, it will be hasanah (Good). (Fathul Bari chap on Taravi by Hafidhh Asqalani).

Hafidhh ibn Taymiyyah writes that bid’ah is always bad, but some scholars say that there are two kinds of bid’ah, that one is good and one is bad. If a new thing has origin in the Qur’an and Sunnah it will be called Bid’ah Logaviyya (verbally) but not Bid’ah in Shari’ah. Only the word bid’ah will be used on the new things. Like, the Qur’an was collected in one book after the Prophet Muhammad [May Allah bless Him and grant Him peace], and the congregational Taravi prayer was started in Sayyidna Umar’s time but these two things have an origin in the Sunnah. Therefore, it will be called bid’ah verbally. (Iqtidah al Sirat al Mustaqeem chap on Bid’ah by Hafidhh ibn Taymiyya).

Mulla Ali Qaari(ra)writes, “It has been narrated from Hadrat Ibn Abbas (ra), “An action that is deemed to be good by Muslims is also good according to Allah (swt).

A marfoo Hadith states, “My Ummah will not agree upon deviance.” ­Mirqaat; Baabul-Itisaam .Mishkaat Sharif records the following Hadith, “Actions are based on intentions and a person attains for whatever he intended.”

Durre-Mukhtaar states, “Mustahab is an action which the Holy Prophet (saws)sometimes did and sometimes didn’t, or an action deemed to be good by the past Muslims.” Vol. 1, Discussion on the Preferred (mustahabaat) of Wudhu

Shaami states, Becaus good intentions make habits and actions to become acts of worship (ibaadat).,, Vol. 5, Discussion on Qurbaani The above is also said in Mirqaat, under the discussion of Niyyat. These Ahadith and extracts of Fiqh prove that any permissible action that is completed with the intention of thawaab, or a deed deemed by Muslims to be full of reward, is also an action of thawaab in the sight of Allah (swt). So, whatever they testify to be good is acceptable and whatever they deem to be bad isn’t acceptable.

Durre-Mukhtaar, Baabul-Azaan, states that reciting Salaam after the Azaan was introduced in 781 AH but this is a Good Innovation (Bidat-e-Hasana). Under his, the book Shaami states in the discussion of Azaan in a troop, “This proves that whatever admirable practice becomes current amongst Muslims leads to thawaab being attained.”

The book of Fiqh Darr-e-Mukhtaar (Vol.1) under the chapter of Mustahabs of Ablutions says, “A Mustahab action is that action which the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) at times did and at times omitted and also that which the Muslims preceding us thought to be good.”
The book Shami (Vol. 5) under the chapter of Qurbani says, “Verily good intentions change habits into worship.” It is also written similarly in the book Mirqat under the chapter of Intentions.

An example of this Bid’ah is given by Hafidhh Ibn Al-Qayyim who writes: ‘The one who denies the punishment of the grave is an innovater’. [Kitaab-ur-Rooh chap10]

Saying that every Innovation is Haraam and that there is no such thing as Good Innovation is contrary to the presented Hadith which states, “He who invents a good practice is worthy of reward and he who invents a bad practice is worthy of punishment.” Extracts of Shaami, Ashiatul-Lam’aat and Mirqaat which state that there are five types of Innovation (Mubah, Waajib, Mustahab, Makrooh and Haraam) have already been given. So, if it is accepted that every Innovation is Haraam, you should do away with Madrassahs because they are included here. Also, Fiqhi laws and practices of the Sufiya that originated after the Khairul ­Quroon (era of the Prophet (saws)and two generations after him) will all become Haraam. All things mentioned above (e.g. Imaane-Mujmal and Mufassal, the gathering of Hadith into book form, criticizing their Chain of Narrators, etc) will all become Bidat because they all originated after the time of Rasoolullah (saws)and even the Sahaaba. No Misguided groupi can show proof of these things in the Quran and Hadith. In short, there is no practice of the Shariah and Tareeqah that doesn’t include Innovation (Bidal).

Discussing ‘Fa alaikum bisunnati’, Shaikh Abdul-Haqq(ra)writes under this Hadith, “The Sunnats of the Khulafaa-e-Raashideen are actually prophetic Sunnahs that did not become famous in the time of The Holy Prophet They found widespread usage in the times of the Khulafaa and are thus associated to them.” – Ashiatul-Lam ‘aat.

“Follow the major congregation, and whoever separates himself from them has separated himself towards Jahannam.” -Mishkaat, Baabul ­Itisaam

It has also been said, “Whatever is deemed to be good by Muslims is good in the sight of Allah (swt).

He who has separated himself a hand’s length from the congregation of Muslims has removed the rope of Islam from around his neck.” Hadith Sharif

Rasoolullah states,Halaal is that which Allah (swt) has made permissible in His Book, and Haraam is that which Allah (swt) has made impermissible in His Book. Whatever He remained silent on is forgiven.Mishkaat, Kitaabul-Atimaa, Baabu Adaabit-Ta ‘aam, Sec 2

It is known from this Hadith that there are three categories of things,

I. Things which are explicitly mentioned in the Holy Quran as Halaal.

2. Things which are explicitly mentioned in the Holy Quran as Haraam.

3. Things which the Holy Quran has remained silent about. These are forgiven.

Seekers of pleasure/raza of Allah

1.dont do it for ahkirat(They don’t even ask for themselves)

2.dont deny the favours(They left everything for Allah and Allah gave everything for them)

3.just for the pleasure of Allah(Irada is fani,They want Allah alone)

Ask seekers of raza to do dua for you (accepeted immediately).
