THE ETIQUETTE OF EATING AND DRINKING

Eat an odd number of dates throughout the day.

Start eating with the salt and finish eating with salt as it drives away seventy diseases.

angels visit those houses which have  utensils made from earth/mud.

To use a red mat (dastarkhan) as it is the Sunnah of Musa, Isa (upon them be peace) and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace.).

To have vinegar and honey in the house is Sunnah.

To eat from a plate / bowl made from clay / earth is a Sunnah.

To use a toothpick after eating is a Sunnah.

One is rewarded with freeing two slaves if you perform Miswak after eating.

It is an emphasized Sunnah (Sunnat-e-Moakedah) to recite the praise of Allah (The Exalted) before and after meals. To lean on something or to leave your head uncovered is disrespectful and against the Sunnah. To lean on the left-hand side is Makrooh (disliked).

Sit the Sunnah way i.e.’ Squat with the buttocks away from the ground. (Both knees touching the stomach and the souls of feet on the floor)’ —–Sit on the left leg having the right knee raised touching the stomach’ ——Sit on both the legs as in the Tashahud posture (shins touching the ground).

Do not eat standing or walking, as it is Makrooh.

When someone has asked you to join them to eat say ‘Barakallah’.

Eat By saying Bismillah/ “Bismillah wa`la Barakatillah” aloud.

If forgets to mention the name of Allah at the beginning –say ‘Bismillaahi fee awwalihi wa aakhirihi,

Dua After Eating- ‘Alhamdu Lillahil Ladhi At’Amana Wasa Qanaa Waja ‘Alana Minal Muslimeen”’

When Eating At Someone’s House– ‘Allahumma At’Im Man-at’Amani Wasqi Man-saqani”

Dua to recite on seeing your food:Allahuma barik lana fihi waattimana khairan minhu

If the meat has burnt then to eat it, is forbidden.

First remove the food then get up.

Clean the plate and other utensils thoroughly after EATING. By doing this the utensils make DUA for one` s forgiveness.

Whoever cleans his plate and his fingers, Allah (The Exalted) keeps the person satisfied both in this world and the next.

The Barakah of eating is gained by washing the hands and rinsing the mouth before and after meals.

Do not eat from the center of the plate, but rather from the side, as barakah descends in the center of the utensil.

When a morsel has fallen from ones hand, one should clean it and eat it. It should not be left for Shaytaan.

Rasulullah SAW used his three fingers of his right hand and he would lick them when he finishes eating. Who knows in which portion of the food does the barakah lie.

Do not get up (after eating) till the mat/table has been cleared.

When eating together, the most pious or eldest should be asked to begin. Talk about good things as to stay quiet is the act of the fire worshippers.

If one has to leave then offer an excuse.

When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)

Make sure you forward this to others .
