Essale sawaab
Imam al-Nawawi (ra) has
said: Hadrat Anas bin Malik used to gather his family members on the occasion
of Khatm al-Quran and offered Fatiha, in the Presence of Allah for the welfare
of all. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab
Tilawatil Qur’an]
Hakeem Ibn Utbah says that Once Ibn Abi Lubabah invited a group of the people and told them that he had invited them at his home because he was completing the Khatm al-Qur’an on that day so that they might benefit thereby as the dua on that auspicious occasion receives the acceptance from the Almighty Allah. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab Tilawatil Qur’an]
It is also reported by Hadrat Mujahid on reliable authority that Some righteous persons used to gather the people on the occasion of the Khatm al-Qur’an and told them that on this occasion, the Mercy (Rahmat) from Allah descends upon those present there. [Kitab al-Azkaar, Baab Tilawatil Qur’an]
If a person recites Surah Ikhlas
eleven times and conveys its thawab to the deceased Muslims, then he himself
shall receive the thawab equal to the total reward given to the souls of the
deceased Muslims. [Raddul Muhtar, Qir’at lil
Mayyit, Baab ad-Dafan, Vol. 1, Page 666]
Narrated Abu Huraira (Ra): The Holy Prophet (ﷺ )said while standing near
the graves of the martyrs of Uhud, “I bear witness that you are alive in
the sight of Allah.” Then turning towards those present he said, “So
visit them, and greet them – I swear by the One in whose power lies my life,
they will answer back to whoever greets them until the Last Day.” (Hakim,
Baihaqi)
“A woman came to the Holy Prophet (ﷺ )
and said, ‘ I have given charity on behalf of my dead mother by giving away her
female servant.’ The Holy Prophet answered, ‘You will have its reward [and so
will she] but return the female servant so that the inheritance [may be
properly divided].’ The woman then said, ‘She used to owe fasts, can I fast on
her behalf’ He answered, ‘You may fast on her behalf.’ The woman then said,
‘She did not perform Hajj, can I perform on her behalf’ The Holy Prophet
answered, ‘Yes. You may perform Hajj on her behalf.” (Tirmizi)
Syeda A’isha (Allah be well pleased with her) reported that a man said to Allah’s
Apostle (ﷺ ): My mother died all of a
sudden, and I think if she (could have the opportunity) to speak she would have
(made a will) regarding Sadaqah’. Will I be entitled to reward if I give
charity on her behalf He (the Holy Prophet) said: “Yes”. (Muslim)
Narrated Sa’d ibn Ubadah (Ra): Sa’d asked: Apostle of Allah, Umm Sa’d has died;
what form of sadaqah is best He replied: Water (is best). He dug a well and
said: It is for Umm Sa’d. (Abu Daud, Mishkaat)
The Holy Prophet said: “Recite Ya Seen over your dead.” (Abu Daud,
Nasai, Ibn Majah)
Jaber reported: We came out with the Holy Prophet (ﷺ ) to Saa’d bin Muaz when he expired. When the Holy
Prophet performed his funeral prayer, and he was buried in his grave and the
earth was levelled upon him, the Holy Prophet read “Tasbeeh” and we
also recited “Tasbeeh” for a long time. Then he recited
“Takbeer”, so we too recited “Takbeer”. It was asked
“;O the Messenger of Allah! Why have you recited “Tasbeeh” and
“Takbeer” He said, “The grave became too narrow for this pious
man till Allah made it spacious because of it (the recitation).” (Ahmed,
Mishkaat)
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ )
said, “What is credited to a believer of his action and good deed after
his death is any useful knowledge he might have taught or spread, a Allah-fearing
child he might have left behind, a copy of the Qur’an he might have left to an
heir, a mosque he might have built, a house he might have dedicated for use by
travelers, a stream or river he might have caused to run, a donation to charity
(i.e. sadaqah) he might have set aside when he was enjoying good health. All
that catches up with him after his death.” (Ibn Majah).
A man came to the Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ] and said ‘My mother has suddenly died and she did not
leave any will, but I suspect that if she did that then she would have told me
to give something to charity. Now if I offer something in charity on her
behalf, will she get the reward?’Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ] said ‘Yes’. Then the man said that I make you, the
Prophet, as my witness, that I offer my garden full of fruits to
charity.(Bukhari Muslim, Chapter Al-Wasiha)
Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ] has said, The status of the
deceased is raised(during their time in the grave), and the deceased ask Allah
(Almighty.) why has this happened, Allah (Almighty.) replies that your son has
prayed for your forgiveness. (Al-Adab, Al-Mufid Chapter Excellency of the
Parents by Imam Bukhari)
In Islam is it permissible for a person to fix a time, or date for voluntary
(Nafal) prayer?
Imam Bukhari writes one day after the Fajr prayer, the Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ] asked Bilal
[ﷺ ], tell me
what good deeds you do because I heard your foot steps in Jannat. Bilal replied
the only thing I do is after I make Wudu I pray Nafal how much Allah
(Almighty.) wills me to do. (Bukhari: Chapter of Salaah)
Hafidhh Asqalani writes in his commentary on this Hadith. We can understand
from this Hadith that it is permissible for a person to fix a time for his/her
voluntary prayer. (Fath-ul-Bari Book of Salaah)
Imam Tabari, Hafidhh-Ibn-Kathir and
Qurtabi write:The Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ]
used to go to the graves of the martyrs of Uhd once a year and also recite the
verse of the Holy Qur’an on excellence of patience. The Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ ] used to pray for them. When the beloved Prophet Muhammad
[ﷺ ] passed away himself, the Khalifs,
Abu-Bakr [ra], Umar [ra], Usman [ra] and Ali [ra] used to do the same thing.
[Tafsir Tabari, Tafsir Ibn-Kathir and Tafsir Qurtabi by Imam Tabari, Hafidhh
Ibn-Kathir. Imam Qurtabi commentary of Surah Ra’d Verse 20.]
Hadrat Anas (ra) reports: He asked, “O Messenger of Allah! We give
charity for our deceased and we perform Hajj on their behalf and we supplicate
for them, do all these deeds reach them?” He (ﷺ
) replied, “Yes, they do receive them and they become happy with them like
anyone of you is happy when a tray of gifts is given to him.” [Raddul
Mukhtar]
