Life and death

“By The one in whose hand is abu al qasim’s soul, isa ibn maryam shall descend as a just and wise ruler .he shall destroy the cross ,slay the swine, eradicate discord and grudges and money shall be offered to him but he will not accept it.then he shall stand at my grave side and say ‘o muhammed and I will answer him” (abuyala-musnad)

The Prophets are alive in their graves and praying Bayhaqi(Abu Ya’la in his Musnad Volume 006: Number 3425 ,Al-Albani, in Silsilat al-ahadith al-sahihah Volume 02, Page No. 187, Hadith Number 621)

Hadrat Sulaiman (as) passed away in the state of namaaz while Baitul-Muqaddas was being constructed (he remained in the standing position for six months, being supported by his walking stick). Eventually, termites ate his stick and his blessed body fell to the ground. When the jinns (who were working on the construction) saw this, they abandoned their work and fled the area. From this ayat and incident, we can deduce,

1.After death, the bodies of the prophets are safe from decomposing and perishing. See: the body of Hadrat Sulaiman (as) remained the same for six months without any change.

2. Insects cannot consume the bodies of the prophets. The termites ate Hadrat Sulaiman’s (as) stick, not his blessed foot.

3. Hadrat Sulaiman’s (as) kafn didn’t become dirty or soiled during these six months. Otherwise, the Jinns would have known that he passed away.

4.The prophets fulfill religious and worldly needs even after their passing! Hadrat Sulaiman (as)made sure the Baitul-Muqaddas Musjid was completed even after his demise.

5. Due to a religious need, to delay the kafn and burial of a prophet is the Sunnah of Allah For the completion of the Musjid, Allah kept Hadrat Sulaiman (as) without any kafn or burial for six months after his demise. Thus, the Sahaaba delaying the kafn and burial of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah  in order to select a Khalifa is absolutely correct because the appointment of a Khalifa is far more important than the completion of a Musjid.

Ibn Kathir also recorded this event, he writes; When an Arab came to our Prophet’s grave and said “I repent from my sins through you and ask for forgiveness, I would give my life for you”. Afterwards our Prophet, (May Allah bless him and grant him peace), appeared in the dream of Utba’, may Allah be pleased with Him, and informed him to go to the Arab and convey the message that there is a good news for him that Allah had forgiven his sins. [Tafsir Ibn Kathir, under 4/64]

” When Yazid bin Mu’awiya attacked Madinah, there was no adhan or Jam’at in Masjid an-Nabawi for three days. Sa’eed bin Musayab states, ‘I stayed in Masjid an-Nabawi for the three days and pretended to be Majnun, (mad) and for every prayer, I heard the adhan from the blessed grave of the Prophet, (saws). [Daarmi, chapter on Fada’il e-Nabi]

Ibn-e-Taymiyya writes that: Ibn Musayab’s listening of the adhan from the Prophet’s grave or the returning of salaam from the graves of the Awliya, is haqq and we believe in it. [Iqtida as Sirat al-Mustaqim, page 373]
