To Proclaim “Ya Rasool ALLAH”

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Omar (ra) once suffered from a cramp. Someone advised him to remember the person whom he loved the most. The great companion then proclaimed loudly, “Ya Muhammadah.” It is recorded that he was immediately relieved. (Kitaabul Adaabul Mufrad)

It is an established practice of the people of Medina Shareef to proclaim “Ya Muhammadah” in times of difficulty and anxiety. (Naseem-ur Riyaaz)

Imaan ibn Jouzi (ra), in his book, “Oyunil Hikaayat”, narrates a strange and amazing incident of three brothers who were constantly engaged in Jihad (Holy Islamic War). He narrates: Once, while engaged in Jihad with the Christians of Rome, they were captured and tortured. The King informed them that if they adopted the religion of Christianity he would set them free. The brothers refused to do so. Instead they all proclaimed aloud, “Ya Muhammadah.” The King became furious and ordered two of the brothers to be thrown into boiling oil. After a while, the youngest escaped from the clutches of his capturers accompanied by the daughter of the King, who was amazed at the piety of the young Muslim. Six months later when they were about to be married, the two martyred brothers amazingly appeared accompanied by a group of Angels. When it was inquired as to how they had survived they replied: “When you saw us being thrown into the boiling oil, you indeed saw the truth, yet as we entered the pot, we entered into the high stages of Jannah.” Imam ibn Jouzi (ra) states that the brothers lived in Syria and were extremely famous. Many couplets have been written in their praise. This incident has been shortened.

Narrated ‘Aisha(ra) :Abu Bakr(ra) came riding his horse from his dwelling place in As-Sunh. He got down from it, entered the Mosque and did not speak with anybody till he came to me and went direct to the Prophet, who was covered with a marked blanket. Abu Bakr uncovered his face. He knelt down and kissed him and then started weeping and said, “My father and my mother be sacrificed for you, O Allah’s Prophet!(Ya Rasool Allah) Allah will not combine two deaths on you. You have died the death which was written for you…………” (hadith continues ) Bukhari Vol 2 book 23 Hadith 333

During the reign of Hazrat Umar (رضى الله عنه) a drought badly threatened the ummah. A person went to Prophet (ﷺ)’s grave and sought for help saying YA rasool Allah (O Prophet ). The Prophet (ﷺ) came into his dream, gave him “basharat” (glad tiding) of rain, and also asked him to warn Hazrat Umar (رضى الله عنه) about the coming threats. Hazrat Umar (رضى الله عنه), when listened his dream wept and assured that he would remain careful as much as possible. Abū Mansūr Sabbāgh who writes in his book al-Hikāyāt-ul-mashhūrah that, according to ‘Utbī, once he was sitting beside the Prophet’s grave when a bedouin came and he said, “Peace be on you, O Allah’s Messenger. I have heard that Allah says: ‘(O beloved!) And if they had come to you, when they had wronged their souls, and asked forgiveness of Allah, and the Messenger also had asked forgiveness for them, they (on the basis of this means and intercession) would have surely found Allah the Granter of repentance, extremely Merciful.’ I have come to you, asking forgiveness for my sins and I make you as my intermediary before my Lord and I have come to you for this purpose.”

Then he recited these verses:  “O(YA), the most exalted among the buried people who improved the worth of the plains and the hillocks! May I sacrifice my life for this grave which is made radiant by you, (the Prophet,) the one who is (an embodiment) of mercy and forgiveness.”
Then the bedouin went away and I fell asleep. In my dream I saw the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). He said to me: O ‘Utbī, the bedouin is right, go and give him the good news that Allah has forgiven his sins(Tafsir ibn e khatir for 4:64 ) Bayhaqī in Shu‘ab-ul-īmān (3:495-6#4178)Ibn Qudāmah in al-Mughnī (3:557).Nawawī in al-Adhkār (pp. 92-3).
