ISLAM AND PSYCHOLOGY

 “So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.” (Quran, 94: 5-6)

…… truly no one despairs of Allah’s soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith.” (Quran, 12:87)

Being religious increases patients’ satisfaction and adherence to treatment.

A  person with a mental illness who is not fully capable of making decisions is not held accountable for his/her actions. 

“The Pen will not write the deeds of three persons: children until they reach the age of maturity, people asleep until they awake, and the insane until they regain their sanity.” (Musnad Ahmad)

REFORMS

Imam =provides advice in accordance with the Quranic principles and sunnah of rasoolAllah ﷺ

Sufis/Pir /Shaykh/ derwish= through detachment from the world and to the presence of God, reading Quran,zikrulla,wazifa ,prayers etc

Suicide is haraam/strictly prohibited. (Faith and hope in God’s mercy ) 

Grief = any loss is a test from Allah (‘O Allah! Reward me for my loss and give me what is better than it,’ but Allah will do just that”)

Anxiety= “Look at those who are less fortunate than yourselves, not at those who are better off than yourselves, so that you will not be little the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you

Waswas/obsessive=“Allah Most High has forgiven the wasawis that arises in the hearts of the people of my nation until one acts upon them or talks about them”

Alcohol/substance abuse= “…make not your own hands contribute to your destruction…” (Quran 2:195)

Meditation /relaxation =Zikrullah /muraqaba/salah brings calmness .

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Behavior =Individual actions and mentality=factors influencing behavior.

Always say in sha Allah,la hawla wala quwwata illabillah

People fighting for money, fame, power or desires.

Research is based on human capabilities, doesnot consider revelation from the creator.

Revelation/Quran is perfect and complete(ahadith are second source).

Judge things based on quran/sunnah/ijma later comes reasoning .

Reasoning sometimes leads to imaginations.

Using nafs/lower self leads to misunderstanding /misguidance .

Body requires food and water AND Soul requires connection with Allah.

Allah knows us better than we know ourselves .

MOTIVATION

To become spiritual is the ultimate purpose of the life.

Purpose of jannah =gazing upon the face of Allah.

Paradise is due to mercy of Allah.

Eating /drinking/sleeping/clothing etc are variable needs in this world but hereafter they are not needs ,they are enjoyments/pleasure.

Wealth and provisions are blessings from Allah (decreed/written).

Working for the sake of Allah in a pure manner (blessing) AND don’t work  for the forbidden purposes (curse)

always do it for the sake of Allah’s pleasure(don’t do it for worldly gains)

fitnah of the wealth and poverty, both are evil.

PSYCHOLOGY

Family= impact on personality development and a potential factor in different psychiatric disorders.

Healthy families are the building blocks of sound societies.

Marriage preserves chastity and prevents the spreading of illicit relationships in the society.sexual desire is one of the primary purpose of marriage.

Fulfilling desires in a lawful way gets rewarded .

Social support is the main source for human development(increase in blessing and lifespan).

Social support include emotional,informational ,physical etc etc

Islamic social connection is based on fear /consciousness of Allah (iman)

Marriage =spouses assist eachother in developing  spiritually(perfect obedience to Allah)

Mother =nurturing ,teaching and guiding .

Father=protection ,maintainance and guidance.

Spiritually(connection with Allah) men and women are equal. superiority only with respect to piety and righteousness. roles are complementary for a better family.

Problems with working women

1.working inside and outside home.

2.contact with men

3.less time given to children/family

4.psycological problems like anxiety ,stress etc

 5.feminine traits like nurturance, deference, affiliation competing with career success like assertiveness,autonomy, independence

Selflessness of brotherhood/sisterhood in islam for Allah’s sake.

Friends,protectors,helpers and supporters of one another for Allah’s sake.

Opposition/enemity/love for Allah’s sake.

Humans behave in order to receive a reward or to avoid a punishment.

Many of the rewards and punishments are actually delayed,not immediate.

For muslims reward of jannah and for non muslims punishment in the hell is in hereafter /ahkirah.

Greatest reward seeing his face(Allah) .

Allah gave knowledge to motivate us to do good.

When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)
