YAQEEN(CERTAINITY)

The Kalima demands three states from the believers, i.e.
1) Obtaining Knowledge of Faith—–  ilm ul yaqeen
2) Witnessing what is being uttered—-ain ul yaqeen
3) Experiencing what is being witnessed—-haqq ul yaqeen

1) Ilm al-Yakin Yes indeed! Would that you knew with the knowledge of certitude…102/5

2) Ain al-Yakin- Then you will certainly see it with the eye of certitude ….102/7

3) Haqq al-Yakin And undeniably, it is the truth of Absolute Certitude….69/51

48/4. He is the One Who sent down calmness and tranquillity into the hearts of the believers so that their faith gets increased with more faith (and the faith learnt—‘the knowledge of certitude’ changes into the faith seen—‘the eye of certitude’).

according to the Qur’an, the purpose of man’s life is worship and servitude to God (51/56) and the purpose of religion is the purification of his soul to enable him to do just that (62/2). realisation is through self-denial and self-control becomes the ultimate goal of life.

certain knowledge (‘ilm-i yaqin) is like certain sight (‘ayn-i yaqin), and certain truth (haqq-i yaqin) is like certain knowledge.

By ‘ilm al-yaqin the Sufis mean knowledge of (religious) practice in this world according to the Divine commandments; by ‘ayn al-yaqin they mean knowledge of the state of dying (naz1) and the time of departure from this world; by haqq al-yaqin they mean intuitive knowledge of the vision (of God) that will be revealed in Paradise, and of its nature.

‘ilm al-yaqin is the rank of theologians (‘ulama) on account of their correct observance of the Divine commands, ‘ayn al-yaqin is the station of gnostics (‘arifan) on account of their readiness for death, haqq al-yaqin is the annihilation point of lovers (dustan) on account of their rejection of all created things.

‘ilm al-yaqin is obtained by self-mortification (mujahadah), ‘ayn al- yaqin by intimate familiarity (mu’anasat), haqq al- yaqin by contemplation (mushahadah).
