THE ETIQUETTE OF SITTING, SLEEPING AND WALKING

One should greet those who are present in the gathering, upon entering as well as exiting.

A person should not cause another to stand from his place and then sit in it, but rather, you should spread out and make room.

leave shoes or some other belonging at the place before leaving the place so that the people could know that you will come back soon.

One should not part two people sitting together except after seeking permission from both.

One should not talk to someone privately in the presence of a third person.

One should not sit in the middle of a circle or group of people.

A person should not do anything which his companions in the gathering dislike.

He who leaves his place and goes to attend some urgent work and comes back soon, deserves the place which he had left. 

It means that one should not sit forcibly between two persons but with their permission.

It is the right of a Muslim that when he sees his Muslim brother, he should make a place for him.

sit upon buttocks with both of knees erect against chest and encircle the knees with hands. This posture shows humility. 

Donot sit half in the sun and half in the shade. 

Put off your shoes while sitting at a place as this will give comfort to your feet.

None of you should lie on his back and place one of feet upon the other. Perhaps this prohibition was to avoid the exposure of private parts in this state of lying down.

Allah doesnot like lying on the belly.

Not to sleep on a terrace, which has no walls or boundaries.

He who sleeps after the Asr prayer, should curse himself for any damage of his sanity.

If anyone comes across women while walking on the road, don’t pass in their middle but keep aside either your right or your left.

Qailoolah (siesta or nap at noon) is lawful particularly for those who remain awake at night for performing additional prayers or Dhikr or reading the religious books. 

Before going to sleep, dust the bed.

Sleep in a state of Wudhu lying on the right side.

It was the practice of Rasulullah (saw) to rest in the afternoon.

Recite BISMILLAH while closing (locking) the doors.

Cover all foodstuff and drink. If nothing is found to cover these. then place a stick on the top.

At the time of sleeping always put out all fires, as it is your enemy.

When applying oil always pray ‘Bismillah” otherwise seventy devils will assist in applying oil in your hair.

take some oil in the palm of left hand.Apply a little on the right eyebrow then the left. Then apply some to the eyelashes first the right then left. Then pray ‘Bismillah” again and apply to the rest of the head from the front right then front left working your way back. In the same manner when applying oil to the beard, pray ‘Bismillah” again and then apply it from the hair closest to the neck and then the way up.

keep seven items besides the bed-bottle of oil; a comb; bottle of Surma; pair of scissors; miswak; mirror; and a stick for itching.

Having a part of the head shaved and leaving a part unshaven is not an Islamic way of hairdressing. It should either be all shaved or all left.

Attention to and care of hair – cleanliness and tidiness, i.e., combing it, using hair oil, keeping the comb clean, etc. – is an Islamic conduct.

Three styles of hair: hair that extended beyond the lobe of the ear, hair that descended below the lobe of the ear, and hair that extended to the shoulder joints. always start from the right side while combing hair.

Supplication for looking in the Mirror– ‘Allahumma Anta Hassanta Khalqi Fahassin Khuluqi’.

When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)
