Life after death 13

Abdullah Bin Umar (ra)reported that Allah’s Messenger mentioned the questioners (the two angels) of the grave. ‘Umar asked, “Is our reason preserved with us then, O Messenger of Allah?” He (saws)said,Yes, as is your present state.’Umar(ra) then said: “I would then throw a stone into his (the angel’s) mouth .(sahih)

Anas (ra)also reported that the Messenger(saws)said:On the night of Isra passed by Musa, who was standing in prayer in his grave(muslim)

It has been stated that the life of a Muslim before and after his death are the same (i.e. they should be respected equally). – Mishkaat, Baabud-Dafn and Mirqaat

Imam Muslim writes:Uqba b. ‘Amir reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Allah’s Messenger offered prayer over those who had fallen matyrs at Uhud. He then climbed the pulpit as if someone is saying good-bye to the living and the dead, and then said: I shall be there as your predecesor on the Cistern before you, and it is as wide as the distance between Aila and Juhfa (Aila is at the top of the gulf of ‘Aqaba). I am not afraid that you would associate anything with Allah after me, but I am afraid that you may be (allured) by the world and (vie) with one another (in possessing material wealth) and begin killing one another, and you would be destroyed as were destroyed those who had gone before you. ‘Uqba said that that was the last occasion that he saw Allah’s Massenger on the pulpit.

Abu Hurayrah(ra)reported that Allah’s Messenger(saws)said:Indeed, a dying person is witnessed by angels. If he were righteous, he (the Angel of Death) says, “Depart, O good soul that inhabited a good body; depart in a praised state; and receive glad tidings of happiness, sweet aromas, and a Lord who is not angry.” He continues to say this until it leaves the body. It is then taken up to the (first) heaven, where permission is sought for it to be admitted. It is said, “Who is this?” He (an angel) replies, “So and so.” It is then said, “Welcome, good soul that inhabited a good body; enter in a praised state; and receive glad tidings of happiness, sweet aromas, and a Lord who is not angry.” This repeats (in every heaven), until it finally reaches the (seventh) heaven above which is Allah (swt) As for an evil man, he (the Angel of Death) says, “Depart, O malicious soul that inhabited a malicious body; depart in a condemned state; and receive evil tidings of boiling fluids and dirty wound discharges (to drink), and other types of suffering of similar nature – all paired together.” This continues to be said until it leaves the body. It is then taken up to the (first) heaven, where permission is sought for it to be admitted. It is said, “Who is this?” He (an angel) replies, “So and so.” It is then said, “Unwelcome, malicious soul that inhabited a malicious body; return in a condemned state, because the gates to the heavens will not open for you.” Thus it is sent down from the heaven, and it enters the grave. The pious person sits in his grave without fear or terror. He is asked, “What did you do?” He replies, “I adhered to Islam.” He is then asked, “Who is that man?” He replies: “Muhammad, Allah’s Messenger (saws) He brought to us clear signs from Allah; and we believed him.” He is then asked, “Did you see Allah?” He replies, “It is not possible for anyone to see Allah (in the first life).” An opening is made (from his grave) to the Fire, so that he sees its various sections crushing each other. He is told, “Look at that from which Allah(swt) has saved you.” Another opening is then made (from his grave) in the direction of Jannah; and he views its grandeur and the things (bounties) in it. He is then told, “This will be your position. You lived with certitude (about Allah’s promises); upon it you died; and upon it you will be raised – when Allah (swt) wills.” The evil person is made to sit in his grave in a state of fear and terror. He is asked, “What did you do?” He replies, “I do not know.” He is asked, “Who is that man?” He replies, “I heard the people say things; and I said the same.” An opening then appears (from his grave) in the direction of Jannah; and he views its grandeur and the things (bounties) in it. He is told, “Look at that from which Allah (swt) has deprived you.” Another opening appears (from his grave) to the Fire; and he observes its various sections crushing each other. He is told, “This will be your abode; in doubt you lived; upon it you died; and upon it you will be raised – when Allah wills.”(ibn majah)
