Dars e Imam-Light Noor

Dras E Imam, Shariath

“Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem”Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen was Salaatu was- Salaamu ‘Alaa Sayidinaa Muhammadin wa Aalihi wa Asabihi Ajma ‘een (tauheed- risalat- ahkirat and islam-iman-ihsan)

Shaykh Ibn al-Haj al- Maliki (in his Madkhal 2:26-33) spoke at length about the sacred light of the Prophet (), and how it was a column of light glorifying Allah Most High, and how it was later deposited into the loins of Adam (alayhi salam); and he ended this section by saying:“So he () is the central pivot of the entire circle of creation, and the original reason for which creation was brought into existence, and because of whose blessing certain times and seasons (e.g. Monday, Rabi’ al-Awwal) were given preference over others. ”

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ja’far al-Kattani wrote in his Nazm al-Mutanathir (#194) –that “It has been mentioned in some hadiths that the first thing Allah (Most High) created was the—–1) Muhammadan Light, 2) the Throne (‘Arsh)… (then he proceeded to mention the Pen (Qalam), the Tablet (Lawh), the Water (see Q11:7), the Spirit (Ruh), the Intellect (‘Aql))… and in explaining the apparent contradiction between these hadiths, I say that the primacy of the Muhammadan Light is the (absolute) reality, whereas the others are of a relative primacy, in that each of those other creations constitute the first of their kind only. So, the Throne existed before the other dense bodies, and the Intellect before the other subtle bodies, and so on…and Allah knows best.”

Hafiz ‘Ajluni states the same in his Kashf al-Khafa’, quoting from other scholars, and he also explained that the meaning of the phrase “from His Light” is not to be understood literally, but rather it is understood in the same way that the Qur’anic verse (32/9) about the creation of Adam from the Spirit (Ruh) of Allah is understood.

….light would appear to come out between his teeth when he () would speak.( Tirmidhi, Bayhaqi ,Tabarani )

… Noor (light) used to be seen emerging from between his blessed teeth. (Muwahibul Laduniya; Anwaarul Muhammadiyah)

“On the day in which the Messenger of Allah entered Madina, everything in it became lit, and on the day in which he passed away, everything became darkened.” (Tirmidhi (#3551), Ibn Majah (#1621)

One of the famous supplications which he () used to recite before Fajr was, “and increase my light, and make me light” (Sahih Muslim 1:525), which Allah Most High no doubt answered.

Hazrat Umar Farouk (ra) narrates that once a person came before them. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saws) asked him if he knew who that person was, he replied: “Allah Ta’ala and His beloved Rasool () know better.” The Prophet (saws) said that it was Jibraeel (alaihis salaam). (Mishkaat; Bukhari Shareef)

This Hadith proves that although the Sahaba referred to Hazrat Jibraeel (alaihis salaam) as a man since they saw him in the form of a human being, yet they accepted that he was in actual fact an Angel made from Noor. On many instances, he came in the form of Sahabi-e-Rasool named Hazrat Wahia Kalbi (ra).

….”The very first thing which Almighty Allah created was my Noor.” (Tafseer Roohul Bayaan; Madarijun Nabuiwat)

….”O Jaabir! Verily, before the creation of anything else, Almighty Allah created the Noor of your Nabi from His Noor.” (Muwahibul Laduniya; Zirkani Shareef)

Sayyida Halima Sa’adiya (ra) said that when she used to feed the Holy Prophet () milk in his infancy, she never felt the need for a light in her house. (Bayaanul Miladun Nabwi; Tafseer Mazhari).

Sayyida Safiya (ra), the aunt of the Holy Prophet Muhammad () states that on the eve of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad () she was present in his house. She said that she saw his Noor became more powerful than the light from the lamp. (Shawaahidun Nubuiwat)

….when the beloved Prophet () smiled, then the walls use to glow with his Noor. (Muwahibul Laduniya; Shifa Shareef)

“In total dark nights, I(sayida aisha siddiqa (ra)) used to put the thread into a needle with the help of the Noor of the Holy Prophet ().” (Shara Shifa Bar Hashia Naseemur Riaz)
