“Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem””Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen was Salaatu was- Salaamu ‘Alaa Sayidinaa Muhammadin wa Aalihi wa Asabihi Ajma ‘een (tauheed- risalat- ahkirat and islam-iman-ihsan)
Imam al-Azizi (d. 1070/1660; Rahimahullah) quoted Imam al-Munawi’s (d. 1031/1622; Rahimahullah) commentary to the last Hadith in his al-Siraj al-munir sharh al-Jami al-saghir (3.449), as follows:- Allah’s hand is over the group (al-Azizi): Munawi says, “Meaning his protection and preservation of them, signifying that the collectivity of the people of Islam are in Allah’s fold, so be also in Allah’s shelter, in the midst of them, and do not separate yourselves from them.” The rest of the Hadith, according to the one who first recorded it (Tirmidhi), is:- and whoever descents from them departs to hell. Meaning that whoever diverges from the overwhelming majority concerning what is lawful or unlawful and on which the Community does not differ has slipped off the path of guidance and this will lead him to hell.” (vide: The Reliance of the Traveller, pg. 25)
No less than Ibn Taymiyya
writes at the end of his `Aqida wasitiyya: “The true adherents
of islam in its pristine purity are Ahl al-Sunnat wal-Jama`a. In their
ranks the truthful saints (siddiqin), the martyrs, and the righteous are to be
found. Among them are the great men of guidance and illumination, of recorded
integrity and celebrated virtue. The Substitutes (abdal) and the Imams of religion are to be found among them and the Muslims are in full accord
concerning their guidance.These are the Victorious Group about whom the Prophet
said: “A group within my Community manifestly continues to be in the
truth. Neither those who oppose them nor those who abandon them can do them
harm, from now on until the Day of Resurrection.” [Ibn Taymiyya, `Aqida wasitiyya (Misguided groupyya
edition) p. 36.]
Tafsir al jalalayn
says:Those who have sundered their religion, by being at variance over
it, accepting some [aspects] of it and rejecting others, and have become
differing parties, sects with regard to such [matters] (a variant reading [for
farraqū, ‘they have sundered’] has fāraqū, meaning that they have abandoned the religion to which they were enjoined, and they
are the Jews and the Christians), you have no concern with them at all,
in other words, do not be concerned with them. Their case will go to God — He
will take charge of it — then He will inform them, in the Hereafter, of what
they used to do, and requite them for it: this was abrogated by the ‘sword’
verse [Q. 9:5].
Tafsir ibn khatir says Mujahid,
Qatadah, Ad-Dahhak and As-Suddi said that this Ayah was revealed about the Jews and Christians.
This usage is customary in the speech of the Arabs, that is, that “moderate, balanced” means just.
Al-Tabari, may Allah’s mercy be upon him, said, “The meaning of ‘moderate, balanced in the speech of the Arab is ‘best, choice.’ One says [for example,] ‘So and so is of the best lineage among his people’ when he wants to raise a person’s lineage.” He also said, “It also comes that ‘the moderate’ means ‘the just,’ and that is the meaning of ‘best, choice,’ because the best of the people are the just among them.”
This usage is also indicated by the words of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) when he described the Muhajireen (the Emigrants) on the day of Saqeefah of Banu Saadah in the following manner, “They are the best (ausat) inhabitants of the Arabs.”
Al-Tabari stated,I opine that Allah describes them as being wasat (middle, balanced) due to their moderation and balance in religion. They are not from those who go to extremes in the religion, such as the extreme of the Christians who practiced monasticism and in what they said about the person of Jesus. Nor are they from those who are lackadaisical in the practice of their religion, such as the Jews who altered the Book of Allah, killed their prophets and lied in speaking about their Lord. Instead, they [the nation of Muhammad (peace be upon him)] are the people of balance and moderation in the religion. Allah described them in that manner because the most beloved of matters to Allah are those that are balanced and just. Al-Tabari, Jaami al-Bayaan, vol. 2, p. 6.
ibn al-Qayyim wrote,Allah does not make any command except that Satan has two incitements [toward it], either to negligence and neglect or to excess and exaggeration. The religion of Allah is in a middle position between being aloof from it and exaggerating in it. It is like a valley between two mountains, guidance between two astray positions and the middle, just position between two blameworthy positions. In the same way that one who is aloof from a matter loses that matter, the one who exaggerates also loses that matter. The first by his not meeting the minimum requirements and the second by going beyond the limits. Ibn al-Qayyim, Madaarij al-Saalikeen, vol. 2, p. 496. As-Sayyad Shaykh Abd’al-Qadir al-Jilani (Radi Allahu ta’ala anhu) (470AH) says in his famous book Ghuniyya-t at-Talibeen “There are 73 groups as foretold by Sayyadina Rasulullah (Salla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam). The group which will be saved from the fire of Hell is the Ahl as-Sunnah Wal Jama’ah.”
Imam Ghazzali (Radi Allahutala anhu) (450AH-505AH) in his book Mujarribaate Imam Ghazzali states ” The Ahl as-Sunnah Wal Jama’ah is the sucessful group and it is this group which weighs or determines its thoughts and its mind according to the scales of the Noble Quran.”
Imam Sufyan Souri (Radi Allahutala anhu)(95AH-161AH) in his book Al Mizaan al-Qubra states ” By Sawad-e-A’zam is meant those who are called the Ahl as-Sunnah Wal Jama’ah.”
Haqq/truth is with people of haal/state and maqam/station =awliya /sufiya.
Fiqh – tariqa= misguidance.
Tariqat –fiqh =heretic
Haqq/truth =shariat +tariqat.
When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)
