Life after death
The abode of the righteous soul is Paradise, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The soul of a believer is a bird eating from the trees of Paradise until Allah restores it to its body on the Day of Resurrection.” (An-Nasa’ee, Ibn Majah, Shaikh al-Albanee Sharh al-Aqeedah at-Tahaawiyyah (p. 455, footnote: 1)]
Abu Hurayrah(ra)reported that Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ)said: When a believer dies, the angels of mercy come to him with a piece of white silk. They say, “Depart(from the body) to Allah’s (granted) happiness.” It departs with the most beautiful scent of musk. They even pass it from one angel to the next, smelling it. When they arrive at the gate of the (lowest)heaven, they are asked, “What is this beautiful scent coming from the earth?” They continue their ascent; and as they arrive at each one of the heavens, the same thing is said to them. They (the angels) take it to (the location of) the souls of the believers. They (the other souls) are happier in meeting it than are those to whom a beloved one returns after a long absence. They ask it, “What happened to such and such (a disbeliever)?” Some of them interrupt, “Leave him until he rests, because he was in the grief of the world.” However, he says, “He died; did he not come to you?” They (the angels) then say, “He was taken to a bottomless pit (of Fire).” As for a disbeliever, the angels of punishment come to him with coarse fabric and say, “Depart(from the body) to Allah’s wrath.” It departs, smelling like the worst of decayed corpses. It is then taken to the gate of the earth.(ibn hibban)
Narrated from Abu Hurayrah(ra):The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “When the Believer is dying, the angels of mercy come to him with white silk and say, ‘Come out content and with the pleasure of Allah upon you, to the mercy of Allah, fragrance and a Lord Who is not angry.’ So it comes out like the best fragrance of musk. They pass him from one to another until they bring him to the gate of Heaven, where they say, ‘How good is this fragrance that has come to you from the Earth!’ Then the souls of the Believers [who have already died] come to him [the newly arrived soul] and they rejoice more over him than any one of you rejoices when his absent loved one comes to him. They ask him, ‘What happened to So and so, what happened to So and so?’…”(Nasaai)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:“The soul of the Believer is a bird hanging in the trees [i.e. moving about and eating] of Paradise, until Allah restores it to its body on the day when He resurrects him.” (Malik in al-Muwatta)
Abu Hurayrah (ra)reported that Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ)said:When the soul of a believer departs from the body, it is taken by two angels who rise with it (here he(ﷺ)described the sweetness of its fragrance). The inhabitants of the heaven say, “A good soul is coming from the direction of the earth; may Allah’s blessings be upon you and upon the body that you had inhabited.” He is then taken to his Lord, Who says, “Take it to complete its appointed time (before resurrection).” But when the soul of a disbeliever departs from the body (here he (0) described its foul odor), the inhabitants of the heaven say, “An evil soul is coming from the direction of the earth.” Then it is said, “Take it to complete its appointed time (muslim)
Ibn ‘Abbas(ra) narrated that Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ)said:When your brothers were killed in the battle of Uhud, Allah ($g) cast their souls into green birds that frequent the rivers of Jannah, eat of its fruits, and rest in lamps of gold hanging in the shadow of the Arsh ‘. When they found this pleasant food, drink, and repose, they said, “Who will inform our brothers, on our behalf, that we are alive in Jannah, and that we receive sustenance – so that they do not forsake jihad (fighting in Allah’s way) or turn back during the fighting?” Allah said, “I will inform them for you.” (al hakim)
Narrated some Companions of the Prophet (ra) that they heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying: On the Day of Resurrection, it would be said to the children: Get into Paradise. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: They will say: 0 Lord! (We shall not enter Paradise) unless our fathers and mothers enter (with us). The Prophet(ﷺ) added: They will be brought. Allah (swt) will say: What is the matter that they are reluctant to go to Paradise? The children will say: But what about our fathers and mothers! Allah will say: Enter Paradise you and your parents. (Musnad Ahmad).
Narrated Abu Huraira (ra) that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Allah the Exalted says: I have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to My believer-slave who, if i cause his son or brother to die, he bears it patiently for My reward. (Bukhari)
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Arnrbin Al-Aas(ra) that the Prophet(ﷺ) recited the Words of Allah (swt)that Ibrahim uttered: My Lord! They (the idols) – have misguided lots of people. So who follows me, is verily of me, and Jesus (as) said: If you punish them, they are Your slaves. If You forgive them, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. Then he raised his hands and said: 0 Allah! My Ummah, (people) My Ummah and wept. So Allah (swt)said: 0 Jibrael! Go to Muhammad – though your Lord knows best – and ask him: What makes you weep? So Jibrael (as) came to him and asked him (about the matter). Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) informed him of what he had said – though Allah knows best. When Jibrael reported to Allah, He said: 0 Jibrael! Go back to Muhammad and say: We will please you with regard to your Ummah and We will not cause you any harm. (Muslim).
