“Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem”Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen was Salaatu was- Salaamu ‘Alaa Sayidinaa Muhammadin wa Aalihi wa Asabihi Ajma ‘een (tauheed- risalat- ahkirat and islam-iman-ihsan)
Bidat
Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Haytami defined the Sunni Muslims as follows in his book Fath al-jawad: “A mubtadi (innovator) is the person who does not have the faith (aqid’ah) conveyed unanimously by the Ahl as-Sunnah. This unanimity was transmitted by the two great Imam’s Abu’l Hasan al-Ashari (d.324/936; Rahimahullah) and Abu Mansur al-Maturidi (d.333/944; Rahimahullah) and the scholars who followed their path.
Impermissibility is proven from prohibition on part of the Shariah, not by something merely being new. This rule is deduced from the Quran, Ahadith and rulings of the Fuqahaa.
Halaal is that which Allah (ﷻ ) has made permissible in His Book, and Haraam is that which Allah (ﷻ ) has made impermissible in His Book. Whatever He remained silent on is forgiven.(Mishkaat, Kitaabul-Atimaa, Baabu Adaabit-Ta ‘aam, Sec 2 )
it is necessary on every person to remain with the congregation of Muslims in Beliefs (aqaaid) and Practices (a’maal). Opposition to them is the path of Jahannam.(be with ahle sunnat wal jamaat/sunnis)
The characteristics of Ahl’l-Sunnah wa’l-Jamā‘ah(sunnis) or “the People of Sunnah and Community” meaning “those that follow the way of the Prophet (ﷺ), and stick close to the community of Muslims upon the way of his Companions and the rightly guided Imams after them” as expressed by many of our scholars in their books on ‘aqīdah, manhaj and usūl’l-dīn (tenets of belief, methodology and the foundations of the religion) .
BE WITH AHLE SUNNAT WAL JAMAAT/SUNNI’S (not restricted to 1 madrasa or 1 alim or 1 fiqh or 1 madhab or 1 organisation or 1 place or 1 book of ideology -its a jammah /congregation of largest muslims of the world)(4/115,4/144)
Imam Shafi’i (d. 204/820) has said, “Anything which has a support (mustanad) from the shari’a is not bid’a, even if the early Muslims did not do it” (Ahmad al-Ghimari, Tashnif al-adhan, Cairo: Maktaba al-Khanji, n.d., 133).
Such innovations that make a person Murtad (a non believer.) A few examples of innovations, which cause a person to become Murtad:- A person claiming to be a Prophet, deny giving Zakaat. Perform Haj at a place other than the Ka’ba, or to introduce any other new belief which is in opposition to Qur’an or Ahadith.
In means that Islamic Aqeeda is completed now. Any addition in Islamic beliefs [aqeeda] will be considered an evil innovation.
NO ACT OF WORSHIP (IBAADAT) IS FREE FROM A GOOD BIDAT
Bid’ah, literally means innovation/new thing. In general usage of speech we say bidat (verbally/ Logaviyya) for innovation/newthing
Bidat-e-I’tiqaadi(innovation in belief) AND Bidat-e-Amali(innovation in practice)
Good Innovation is of three kinds: permissible (jaaiz), preferable (mustahab) and compulsory (waajib).
Bad Innovations (Bidat-e-Sayyia): the disliked (makrooh) and prohibited (haraam).
Hasana (Good Innovation- doesn’t go against any Sunnah) and Sayyia (Bad Innovation- contrary to a Sunnat or ruins it or against quran n sunnah)
Bid’ah say’iah is a new thing, introduced to and made part of the Deen (Islam) that has no origin what so ever from the Qur’an or the Sunnah of Rasoolallah [May Allah bless Him and grant Him peace]
“Actions are based on intentions and a person attains for whatever he intended.” (mishkat)
Shaami states, Because good intentions make habits and actions to become acts of worship (ibaadat).,, Vol. 5, Discussion on Qurbaani
Mulla Ali Qaari(ra)writes, “It has been narrated from Hadrat Ibn Abbas (ra), “An action that is deemed to be good by Muslims is also good according to Allah (ﷻ ).
Durre-Mukhtaar, Baabul-Azaan, states that reciting Salaam after the Azaan was introduced in 781 AH but this is a Good Innovation (Bidat-e-Hasana).
Ahadith and extracts of Fiqh prove that any permissible action that is completed with the intention of thawaab, or a deed deemed by Muslims to be full of reward, is also an action of thawaab in the sight of Allah (ﷻ ).
The Innovation produced by a nation causes the Sunnah of the same proportion to be lifted. Hence, holding on to the Sunnah is better than introducing an Innovation. Mishkaat, Baabut-Itisaam, Sec 3
Both Good and Bad Bidats should be properly understood and recognized.
