Awliya -Prohibition

Awliya, Shariath
“Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem”Al-Hamdu Lillaahi Rabbil ‘Aalameen was Salaatu was- Salaamu ‘Alaa Sayidinaa Muhammadin wa Aalihi wa Asabihi Ajma ‘een (tauheed- risalat- ahkirat and islam-iman-ihsan)

THE URS (ANNIVERSARY ON THE DEPARTURE OF A SAINT)

There are many preferable acts in our time which were prohibited in the era of the Sahaaba

Like Hadrat Umar (ra)ordered that no Muslim governor should travel on a mule, etc, wear delicate clothes or close the door to a person in need. He further said, “If you do any of these things, you will be punished.” _ Mishkaat, Kitaabul-Imaarah, Baabu Maa alal-Wulaat

Like Another Hadith of Rasooullah(ﷺ)states, “I haven’t been commanded to build Musjids high.” – Mishkaat, Baabul-Masaajid

Like The marginal notes on this narration state, ”There is no instruction to build high Musjids and decorate them.”

Like Another Hadith states, “Do not stop women from entering Musjids.” -Ibid

The Holy Quran has appointed eight recipients of Zakaat (Mualifaatul-Quloob is included), but the recipients of Zakaat have been lessened to only 7 during the Khilaafat of Hadrat Umar (ra)(i.e. Mualifaatul-Quloob has been separated).-Refer to Hidaya, etc.

In previous times the ruling was that lighting of Mazaars should not be done. This has been allowed in this era. Under Verse 18 of Surah Tauba, Allama Ismail Haqqi (ra)writes that Hadrat Sulaiman brightened the minaret of Baitul-Muqaddas, to the extent that women were able to spin thread in this brightness 12 miles away!

It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that: Once, while travelling, Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, stopped at a certain place and said that there was a grave in front of him, and that the person therein is busy suffering punishment. Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, then broke off two branches from a date palm and placed in on the grave, and said that as long as the branches were fresh, the punishment would be lessened. This is because the fresh branches would be making the Dhikr of Allah, subhanaHu wa Ta`ala. So this act is a Sunnah, and people use flowers, as it is more available and also able to maintain its freshness for much longer. From this we can also deduce that if we ourselves perform Dhikr at the Qubur, it would also lessen the inhabitants’ punishment. Performing Dhikr at the Qubur of the Awliya would bring more blessings upon their respective Ruhs (souls). Doing this would be compliance with a divine order.

It is stated in the famous Hanafi Fiqh book Fatawa Alamgiriyyah/Hindiyyah (Kitab al- Jana’iz) that it is allowed to put flowers on a grave. Mullah Ali al-Qari writes in the commentary of the above-mentioned Hadith in al-Mirqat fi Sharh al-Mishkat that:“Our Ulama have issued a ruling that to place fragrance and plants (over a grave) are a Sunnah practice”.One fails to understand how placing flowers over a grave means associating a Partner with Allah!!! To say that, actually means that flowers should only be put on the grave of Allah ,Astaghfirullah!!!!

Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, said that “The one who does not thank people, does not thank Allah, subhanaHu wa Ta`ala,”

A Nation, which does not honour its true servants and heroes, is an ungrateful Nation and is bound to confusion.

Putting flowers on the graves

Sahih Al Bukhari – Volume 1, Book 4, Number 215 Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: Once the Prophet (ﷺ), while passing through one of the grave-yards of MADINA or MAKKAH heard the voices of two persons who were being tortured in their graves. The Prophet ( said, “These two persons are being tortured not for a major sin (to avoid).” The Prophet then added, “Yes! (they are being tortured for a major sin). Indeed, one of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine while the other used to go about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends).” The Prophet then asked for a green leaf of a date-palm tree, broke it into two pieces and put one on each grave. On being asked why he had done so, he replied, “I hope that their torture might be lessened, till these get dried.”so putting flowers or petals on a grave is a established sunnah.

lighting

lighting a lamp on the grave itself is forbidden.likewise, if there is no grave but similarly a lamp is lit and kept on the name of a Buzurg (as is the practice of some ignorant people who light lamps and place them on certain trees) in niches or on someone’s name, it is Haraam.

In short, the book Shaami has disallowed three things,

1. Vowing to light a lamp (that too with the intention of gaining nearness to Any Wali).

2. Lighting the lamp upon the actual grave.

3. Lighting a lamp for someone (one even without a Qabr).

Making ibaadat in a place where a pious person used to sit, or making ibaadat thinking that a certain area is blessed, is permissible. In fact, it is Sunnat.

When I want to talk to allah I say prayers and when I want that he talk to me I recite quran- Hazrath Ali(ra)

Make sure you forward this to others .
